Amazon’s Whale (ILM1) facility is a large-scale, multi-story logistics and distribution center designed to support high-volume fulfillment operations. As the end client and facility owner, Amazon operates a complex, technology-driven environment that relies heavily on automation and robotics to efficiently process and distribute goods. The proposed facility, being delivered by The Conlan Company, includes a substantial ground-floor office, expansive warehouse space, and four elevated sortation levels dedicated to robotics-based operations. This facility plays a critical role in Amazon’s supply chain infrastructure, enabling rapid order processing and supporting regional and national distribution demands.
Corvant was brought in to support a highly accelerated construction schedule driven by the tenant’s required occupancy and access dates. The compressed timeline left little margin for delays, requiring overlapping coordination, expedited procurement, and real-time problem-solving across multiple trades. Adding to the challenge, the complexity of integrating mechanical systems within a multi-story, robotics-driven warehouse environment demanded precise planning and execution to keep pace without impacting quality or safety.
Corvant approached the project with a proactive, solutions-driven strategy focused on maintaining schedule and maximizing efficiency. Through early pre-coordination, structural coordination, and detailed BIM coordination, the team identified and resolved potential conflicts before installation began. Corvant also implemented prefabrication for multiple system components, allowing crews to increase production speed, improve installation quality, and reduce field labor impacts.
To keep the project moving at the required pace, Corvant deployed multiple crews simultaneously to manage different aspects of the work while maintaining continuous communication through weekly coordination meetings and progress touchpoints. Regular QA/QC walks were also conducted throughout the project to verify installation accuracy, identify issues early, and ensure no scope items were overlooked, helping the team stay ahead of schedule while maintaining a high standard of quality.
Corvant’s planning, coordination, and execution helped deliver a successful Certificate of Occupancy and on-time Amazon facility launch, allowing operations to begin as scheduled without impacting the tenant’s aggressive occupancy requirements. By strategically allocating manpower and resources to critical areas of the project, Corvant minimized downtime, maintained workflow continuity, and kept production moving efficiently throughout construction.
In addition to schedule performance, Corvant provided measurable value through disciplined cost management and procurement strategies. The team met project buyout constraints by securing multiple competitive vendor quotes and negotiating with key suppliers to reduce overall costs while maintaining quality and schedule expectations. Through a combination of expertise, communication, and proactive problem-solving, Corvant delivered a high-performance project that supported both the client’s operational goals and financial objectives.
